In my journal I have written about what I have learnt and what we did. This term I have learnt about prefixes, the Patu, geometry, and more. The prefixes were in literacy, the Patu was in Kaupapa Matua, and geometry was in Pangarau. I think that learning these will really help my knowledge grow since we never really speak about those topics while writing. They were very fun to learn and i hope that we can do more as we continue. Matua said that the journal was necessary so he can hear about what we’ve learnt. I agree with him because we wouldn’t learn anything at all. I also think that the journal was a good idea because we get to customize it and make it look cool.
Pasifika
Pasifika
Kia ora, this is my introduction for Pasifika, something made by the Pacific islands. In The first terms of being year 7, we were introduced to something called ‘Pasifika’. To my knowledge, it’s somewhat like kapa haka, but instead of dancing, we learn about other islands and learn new songs, and actually get to use our hands. It’s usually just samoan songs, but some could be tongan, fiji, or even cook islands. I wasn’t a big fan of Pasifika at the start, only thinking of it as a quick 30 minutes at the end of the day, that was until I did it more and more, and it slowly started warming up on me.
I got to learn new songs that presented different cultures and islands, some were cool, some weren’t. We also got to learn about the people that were teaching, one called Noa, and one called Albany. Until, we got mentioned to sasa, a samoan word that means ‘dancing’. We learnt a new sasa almost every week, and that was the first thing I actually found interesting in Pasifika. Most of the days we had Pasifika were the days we had CRT, and those days were the few that I didn’t enjoy Pasifika at all. The only thing I appreciated about it was that I got to sit beside my friends.
So, finally coming to my conclusion. My opinion on it some people might disagree on, but i think its fair coming from someone like me. I wouldn’t say Pasifikas the best, mostly because it’s at the end of the day and I’m always tired when we do it, but I also wouldn’t say it’s bad either. So, I believe that Pasifika is an interesting experience, and would like to do it for the rest of the terms and maybe even next year.

Weekly Reflection
- One thing I really enjoyed this week was… and why?
One thing I really enjoyed this week was Kaupapa Matua because we got to learn and study about a Maori weapon called the Patu, where we got to watch a video about it. I also got to work with people I liked so I took a liking to most of it.
- A challenge I faced this week was… and why?
A challenge I faced this week was having to work while my friends kept talking because it is hard most of the time to concentrate on the work, but I still was able to accomplish my work so it was fine.
- Something I felt proud of this week is… and why?
Something I felt proud of this week is my reading because I’ve been reading faster as I learn, the only downside being that my punctuation was a little wrong, plus the big words I had to try and say.
- Next week, I want to get better at… and why?
| Next week, I want to get better at Pangarau because i don’t think I’m fast enough to answer any of the equations that Whaea has for us. Though, I feel like I’m good at answering them.

- If I could change one thing about this week, it would be… and why?
If i could change one thing about this week, it would be my handwriting in Tuhituhi because my words are a little too big and i don’t really add any commas or special characters.

Canterbury champs
On Friday 25th of October, Rawhiti school had their annual Athletics day. On this day it contained lots of activities that I will describe more about soon. I thought it was fun and I’ll explain the other details later on how I felt about it. As you go on you will find out about why I find it so fun and entertaining. I hope you enjoy reading my explanation.
On Athletics day if you were to get in the top three or five best shooters/runners you would be able to get into Zones. Zones are where you can compete against other schools. I successfully got into Zones for Medium distance and Sprint which is cool. Medium distance is lapping around the bike track twice and I got 2nd place. Sprint is just running 100 meters and I got 3rd for that one.
In conclusion, athletics was really tiring because of all the activities that were included on that day. I look forward to doing it next year. I am going to try and get better at shot put.
AFED squad
Today we learnt about AFED. It’s a website where we have to do quests about pronunciation and Te Reo Maori. We have to complete 28 out of 30 questions or over to move on to the next quest. We had to watch a video about a corporation getting shut down because they seemed like a threat. A person called Mana had to time travel to the past so he could save it and he also told us about different vowels and macrons. We then had to do all the quests like “what word did Mana just say” or “sort out the Maori words to the correct english ones”. I managed to get to quest 7 and i almost got 30 out of 30 for all of them. We also had to watch videos for the answer and Mana gave us a Ponamu every time we completed a quest. We also got a congratulations video every time we completed a question which i thought was cool. Overall i hope we get to do more on AFED again.
Panuitia New Structure
For the past week we have been doing a new reading structure. We all got levels and I was in the highest with 6 other people in my class. We got a journal but we only had to read one chapter called “Stand Up”. It included different types of protests that have happened in Aoteroa. Once we read it we had to go on a slide deck with questions about “Stand Up”. I then had to share the slide deck to Matua Travis for the blog and then I had to comment on someones blog about it in my group but no one was up to finishing the blog yet. Overall I thought it was fun and I hope we do it for the rest of the term or more?
Ancient Olympics
This week we learnt about the Olympics. We had to make a doc with 3 people you thought would get a medal and were representing New Zealand. We also had to do their medal count for the 3 and also answer questions like, how old are they? and where were the last five Olympics? After that we had to do a slide about the Ancient Olympics that Whaea Rachael gave us. We had to finish sentences that were in the reading we did in the first slide. We also had to get 1 or more synonyms for the words large, fast and old in the same slide. I’m still finishing the slide but i think i will be pretty quick.
Geometry
Geometry
This week we did Geometry. We learnt about Geometric shapes and made some awesome stuff. First, we had to draw 10 or more shapes in our math book. We then had to make things with the shapes in 10 categories. I finished and I was proud of my work. Lastly, once we finished we got colored paper and we had to cut them out into geometric shapes. Most people made fries but I made a 3D house with my friends. It wasn’t that cool but I still liked it. Overall I thought it was fun.

Action Station Blog Softball
For the last weeks we’ve been doing softball for the action stations. I thought it was pretty cool. I learnt some new games and some new techniques. I enjoyed it because it was very active and cool. I found throwing the ball challenging because my arms weren’t as strong as the others but it was okay but my favorite part was the games and challenges i got to play. If i was able to play again i probably wouldn’t because of the rough players.
Harold The Giraffe
Today and yesterday, Thursday the 10th, we went to see harold. We went into the life education van. We saw the teacher, Jo. She was very nice and she showed us harold. After that we got to see the inside of the body. We saw the heart, lungs, the blood flow, and the veins. We also learnt about the basic needs, such as food, exercise, water, shelter, sleep and washing your body. We learnt that the heart is the same size as your hand when it is closed. The other thing we learnt is that your left lung is smaller than your right because the heart needs to fit and if we didn’t have a skeleton then we would just be a blob.
